Structural Electrical and Surface Tensional Properties of Ceramic Polymer Composites

Nano crystaline powders of Strontium Barium Niobate(SBN) ceramic powders were prepared by conventional ceramic technique.Barium carbonate,strontium carbonate and niobium pentoxide were taken in their stoichiometric ratios and ground well for 4-6 hrs calcined at an elevated temperature(1000 degree celcius),then pellatized and sintered at a temperature of 1050 degree celcius for 5 hrs.Crushed the samples very well.X ray and SEM studies revelead its particle size belonged to nanometric level less than 400nm.Prepared composites out of it by mixing it with polystyrene.The filler referred here is the prepared SBN.Composites of filler volume fraction 10%,20%,30%,40%were prepared.Dielectric studies were conducted.The dielectric constant of the composites increasd with filler volume fraction.With the increment in temperature dielectric constant also increased due to the orientational polarisability of polystyrene.SBN being a ferroelectric material dielectric losses were so small.Mechanical and surface tensional studies were conducted .The mechanical properties of polystyrene increased with the addition of filler and filler volume fraction.The composites showed hydrophobic nature in its surface tensional studies.
