|Quality Analysis of Hermetically Sealed Quartz Crystal Package Mounted in Clock Oscillator Designed for Space Flight|

|The purpose of this paper is to provide the space industry with research results derived from the use of swept-quartz and a hermetically sealed package engineered for HIGH Reliability. This design utilizes a 4-point quartz crystal mount independently sealed in a stand-alone package separate from the hermetically sealed clock oscillator package. Planned experimentation and powered testing was performed in an effort to prove and/or disprove design performance and long-term Quality and Reliability. Representative samples were subjected to severe stress conditions with the intent of finding potential failure mechanisms. MIL-PRF-38534E (Hybrid Microcircuits, General Specification) and MIL-PRF-55310D (Crystal Controlled Oscillator, General Specification) were referenced for testing respective samples to class “S” , which is the highest reliability level and is intended for space applications.|
