Colloidal Gels Induced at Room Temperature for Direct-Writing of Artificially Engineered Materials

The concentrated nanoparticle suspension was homogeneously gelated at room temperatures by hydrophobic interaction of dehydration of a triblock copolymer, from Newtonian fluid state. The resulting viscoelastic suspensions were applied to direct-writing method for fabricating artificially engineered functional materials. The three dimensional colloidal structures were formed by extruding the suspensions from micro-nozzles with diameter of 100um or less in air. It was demonstrated that the colloidal woodpile structures showed the interesting transmittance behavior of electromagnetic waves.
