250°C Operating Temperature Dielectric Film Capacitors
Keywords: high temperature, capacitors, dielectric films
High operating temperature electronic components are needed for a variety of military, aerospace, down-hole, hybrid and all-electric vehicle applications. One of the limiting technologies is the availability of highly reliable capacitors that operate at temperatures greater than 250°C. This paper introduces a sub-5 µm dielectric film Gore has developed for metallized film capacitors. The film exhibits good dielectric breakdown strength, low dissipation factor and stable capacitance over a wide temperature range. Data will be presented from wound film capacitors made from this film and tested from -55°C to 300°C.
