An Update on the SAE G-19 Committe and Electronic Counterfeit Detection Standards
Keywords: Counterfeit Detection, SAE G-19 Committee , AS 5553
Counterfeit components in the electronics industry are becoming a serious threat to our economy and our safety. The SAE Aerospace G19 Counterfeit Electronic Components Committee was chartered to address all aspects of preventing, detecting, responding to and counteracting the threat of counterfeit electronic components. The members of this committee include government entities, prime subcontractors to the government, contract manufacturers, testing laboratories and industry groups. This team has developed and issued AS 5553 – “Counterfeit Electronic Parts; Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition, Issued 2009-04” and is in the process of developing two additional standards. AS 6081 – “Counterfeit Electronic Parts Avoidance – Distributors” is a standard written for certification of distributors of electronics parts and AS6171 which will address the applicable test methods, risk assessment techniques and sampling plans for counterfeit detection test methods. This presentation will discuss these standards and their potential impact on the electronics supply chain.
