Low temperature fired Co2Y-NiCuZn ferrite composites

It is very important and urgent to develop a magnetic material that has a higher initial permeability and quality factor at above 200-300 MHz for use in making high frequency inductors or exhibits a stable inductance across a wide current range for power application. In this study, Co2Y-NiCuZn ferrite composites with a high permeability and quality factor at frequencies above 200 MHz or a stable inductance across a wide current range were prepared by mixing different ratios of NiCuZn ferrites and Co2Y ferrites and sintering at below 950oC. The effects of different mixing ratios of Co2Y and NiCuZn ferrites on the densification behavior, micro-structure and magnetic properties of Co2Y-NiCuZn ferrite composites were investigated. The addition of small amounts (below 20wt%) of NiCuZn ferrites into the Co2Y ferrites can effectively enhance the densification and improve the magnetic property of Co2Y ferrites at high frequencies. On the contrary, a NiCuZn ferrite with a small grain-sized (about 1 μm) and uniform micro-structure, which exhibits a good DC-bias property can be obtained by adding trace amount (0.5wt%) of Co2Y ferrites into the NiCuZn ferrites.
