Electrostatic Dry Coating of Cathode Materials for Li Ion Battery

Electrostatic dry coating is a type of particulate coating that is applied as a free-flowing, charged dry powder. It does not utilize solvents and oversprayed powder could be collected and recycled. Thus, it is environment-friendly and cost-effective processing. The electrostatic dry coating can be in principle applied to manufacture lithium ion battery. However, it has not been investigated if the properties of powder materials for Li-ion battery be matched to the right electrostatic deposition. In this presentation, the preparation of LiCoO2/carbon/binder composites, their tribo-charging and deposition ability will be reported. The composite microstructure and the charge/discharge performance of the cathode formed by the electrostatic dry coating will be shown as well.
