Functional hybrid silica

Hybrid silicas are interesting materials which are used in many fields of application: optics, coatings, drug delivery or supported catalysis, etc… Yet functionalising these hybrids still remains a challenge nowadays. Organotrialkoxysilanes are key intermediates for their synthesis and although many functional alkoxysilanes are commercially available, in order to obtain new smart silica-based materials, more sophisticated synthesis need to be developed and one may encounter difficulties while trying to achieve synthetic strategies. Therefore it is necessary to find new methods for the synthesis of organosilane precursors. The purpose of this presentation will mainly be focused on a newly recent and clean method for functionalising hybrid silicas using Click Chemistry. In a second part, the synthesis of new organosilanes bearing molecular recognition properties will be given. These latter properties will be exploited for the development of new carriers for autonomous drug delivery [3,4].
