Book Review:
Jerry Sergeant
Industrial Electronics for Engineers, Chemists, and Technicians
By Daniel J. Shanefield, Rutgers University, SciTech Publishing, Inc., 2001, Distributed by William Andrew Publishing, 13 Eaton Ave., Norwich, NY 13815
This book is primarily intended for those individuals who require a basic working knowledge of electronics. It does not contain a great deal of underlying theory. Instead, Dr. Shanefield describes electronic components and circuits in a very basic manner, relating the principles of operation to well-known phenomena, such as the flow of water.
The result is a book that provides a practical understanding of electronics to anyone with a related background, technical or otherwise. He explains the workings of such devices as resistors, capacitors, inductors, bipolar and MOS transistors, triacs, integrated circuits, and microprocessors in such a manner that they are easily understandable and applicable.
Since many IMAPS members have disciplines other than electronics, this book would be a valuable asset. Even those with an electronics background will find much useful information, as I did.
