NORTHWEST CHAPTER The chapter’s 2002 officers were presented at the chapter meeting on Jan 16th. They are: President - Wes Saulsberry, Boeing; Vice President - Mark Hartung, Chip Supply; Past President - Ernie Vasvary, Micro Systems Engineering; Treasurer - Steve Kirby, Kirby & Demarest; and Secretary - Jim Currier, JRC & Associates. The meeting was hosted by Honeywell at their MEMS facility in Redmond, Washington. Five technical papers were presented: “Survival & Crashworthiness of Flight Recorders,” “MEMS Micromanipulation & Assembly,” “Flexible Circuit Area Array Interconnection for Biomedical Sensors,” “Six Sigma Roadmap” and “MEMS Process Capabilities for Precision Devices.” The grand finale was a tour of Honeywell’s MEMS Facility. The chapter is deeply indebted to the contributions made by Daryl Mobraten as the session chair; to Honeywell for generously hosting the meeting and providing the tour; and to our corporate sponsors for providing financial support for this event.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 in Portland. Topics for the technical session have not been finalized as we go to press, but Ted Tessier is expected to generate considerable interest with the paper he is planning to present on 3D stacked BGAs.
Since the chapter alternates meetings between the Portland and Seattle areas the next meeting will be in Seattle on July 17th, and the last meeting of the year will be the 2nd Annual joint IMAPS NW/SMTA OREGON meeting in Portland on October 16th.
Attendance at the chapter meetings has been steadily increasing and is approximately twice what it was last year (we expect 50-60 attendees at each meeting). To become a chapter sponsor or receive the chapter’s newsletter (circulation 400+) with details of upcoming meetings contact Wes Saulsberry(charles.w.saulsberry@boeing.com) or Ernie Vasvary (vasvarye@biotronik.com).
