AOI/repair strategy is standard practice in PCB industry.

While IBM is clearly a visionary leader in the MLC production world, the strategy of 100% AOI with a verification and repair step is commonly accepted throughout the PCB manufacturing world. In fact, chances are that IBM’s successful experience with AOI for PCB production strongly influenced the company’s decision to adopt this strategy into the MLC plant.

Dave Fisher, a PCB marketing manager for a major AOI systems manufacturer emphasized that strategy. Fisher said, “Virtually every high volume PCB production facility accepts AOI as an absolute must to ensure high yield production. While IBM is leading the way for MLC, it is likely that many other companies will follow suit as the challenges of the industry continue towards more complex designs.”
