Around the Microcircuit
Florida Chapter
In April, the Florida chapters of IMAPS and SMTA held their long awaited symposium. The “Innovative Electronics Packaging and Assembly Concepts” show had been postponed from its original date of February to further accommodate the already struggling industry in the wake of September 11.
This year’s show focused on the ever-changing relationships between microelectronics and surface mount technologies. The diversity of this year’s exhibitors included paste manufacturers to SMT pick and place machinery to design concepts that include both technologies.
The symposium was held this year in Orlando, Florida. Attendees traveled from various location including Tampa, Melbourne, Jacksonville, and Miami. The event was worth the wait as we saw much benefit from the papers and attendees alike.
New Student Chapter
The IMAPS Executive Council has approved the establishment of a new student chapter at San Diego State University. Special kudos go to San Diego Chapter Chair Ken Kuang for spearheading this endeavor.
