Dear Students,

We cordially encourage and invite you to attend the 41st International Symposium on Microelectronics (IMAPS 2008) which will be held at Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI, on November 2 - 6, 2008.  IMAPS student members can take advantage of a reduced Symposium registration fee.

The following list highlights the student programs offered throughout IMAPS 2008. These programs are designed to provide students with technical information, industry insight, and valuable connections.

Professional Development Course (PDC) Monitor:

Students have the opportunity to serve as a PDC Monitor and attend the course free of charge.  Monitor must be a full time student and are assigned on a first-come basis. Sign up early by e-mailing Jackki Morris-Joyner (jmorris@imaps.org) with your top three choices no later than October 1st.

Student Paper Competition:

Student authors will deliver paper presentations throughout the Symposium. Presentations will be evaluated on technical content, presentation skills, the written manuscript, and audience interaction. Winning students will receive cash prizes, a certificate, and recognition in Advancing Microelectronics magazine.

Student Chapter Booth Competition:

Student chapters are encouraged to have a complimentary booth and exhibit on the main floor.  These booths allow students and chapters to demonstrate their activities to the microelectronics industry.  Student booths will be evaluated by a panel of judges on various criteria.  Winning chapter booths will receive cash prizes, certificates, and magazine recognition. Please contact Steve Greene (sgreene@imaps.org) for more information or to reserve your complimentary booth.  Booth judging will be on Tuesday, November 4th, 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Student Industry Panel/Reception:

This will provide students both career development advice and industry insight from leading professionals.  Industry leaders and professional engineers will describe and discuss how their education, interests, and career experiences led to successful careers.   Students will also learn current industry expectations and what they should be doing now for their long-term career development.  A reception will immediately follow where students will have the opportunity to talk directly with the industry panelists and other leaders.  Join us on Tuesday, November 4th, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Student Plant Tour:

This tour is designed to provide students with industry insight and technical expertise.  Barry Industries is a vertically integrated, microelectronics manufacturing company.  Barry’s product lines are thick film resistor products (precision resistors, power terminations, attenuators - up to 1500 watts pulsed power) and LTCC.  The tour will include a guided walk through the facility’s areas of design and simulation, the machine shop, CO2 laser machining, thick film printing/firing, YAG laser trim, assembly, and engineering/testing.  A valuable group discussion will follow.  Register on-line. The plant tour is set for Wednesday, November 5th, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm.
