Axus Technology Acquires Moog Legacy Product Line Responsibility

Axus Technology is pleased to announce that they have acquired several Control System product lines from the Moog Industrial Group. The products include several automation platforms and related products, including amplifiers and touchscreen control systems. Axus will assume the support, repair service responsibilities, and manufacture of these products, utilizing the same key technical support team that had previously performed these roles at Moog. This support team will remain in the Richmond, CA facility acquired by Axus as part of the purchase. This will ensure continuity in terms of the quality of support and technical capability.

The principal product lines included in this acquisition are; the Moog (formerly Berkeley Process Control) S32 and S64 product lines, as well as the TS-5112 touchscreen controller. Associated with these products are a range of high power amplifier products, motors, and a number of peripheral products. These Moog products are used in a range of manufacturing tools, including tools used in semiconductor manufacture and other applications requiring complex process and motion control.

"Axus Technology has had a long-standing distribution relationship with Moog, providing direct support to the users of these products for over ten years," commented Barrie Van Devender, Axus Technology Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Our acquisition of these legacy product lines ensures the long-term service and support for the users of these products and the manufacturing tools that they are used in."

Remtec’s Appoints William Dinardo New Business Development Manager

Remtec Inc. has appointed William F. Dinardo to the new position of Business Development Manager. In making the announcement, Remtec president, Nahum Rapoport said, “Bill Dinardo brings us over twenty five years of sales, marketing and business development experience in electronic and ceramic packaging, biotechnology, RF and surface mount technology and microwave device manufacturing. His broad-based experience will bring depth to our management team and support for our new market and business development.”

Dinardo has served in senior management positions where he has directed sales, marketing, new product development, marketing research and new business development for glass-to-metal, ceramic packaging, advanced materials and microelectronic companies. Rapoport comments, “Bill Dinardo is thoroughly qualified to direct our new business development and help us penetrate important new markets.”

Bill Dinardo graduated with a BS degree in Marketing and a Master degree in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University.

News from Master Bond

Flexible Two Component Epoxy System Features Electrical and Thermal Conductivity

Formulated with a silver coated nickel filler, Master Bond EP79FL is a two part, electrically conductive epoxy for bonding, sealing and coating applications. It has low volume resistivity of less than 0.005 ohm-cm and is suitable for a variety of uses in the electronic, aerospace, computer, semiconductor and electro-optic industries.

In addition to its electrical properties, this system is very flexible upon curing, enabling it to be used in applications involving thermal cycling as well as thermal and mechanical shocks. It adheres well to metals, composites, glass, ceramics, vulcanized rubbers and many plastics while offering a T-peel strength that exceeds 25 pli. EP79FL is serviceable over the wide temperature range of 4K to +275°F allowing it to be used in cryogenic environments. Also, this epoxy is a reliable thermal conductor.

EP79FL has a convenient one to one mix ratio by weight, and it cures readily at room temperature or more rapidly at elevated temperatures. It can be applied with minimal sagging or dripping, even on vertical surfaces. It can be made thinner and flowable by adding 5-10% by weight of an appropriate solvent such as xylene, acetone or MEK.

This epoxy is available in syringes, glass jars or in premixed and frozen syringes. The syringes have a shelf life of 3 months, while the jars have a shelf life of 6 months when stored at room temperature in its original, unopened packaging.

New Flexible Low Viscosity Silicone Compound

MasterSil 151 is a new two component, low viscosity silicone compound for high performance casting, potting and encapsulation introduced by Master Bond Inc., Hackensack, N.J.  This formulation is designed to cure at room temperature or more rapidly at elevated temperatures.  MasterSil 151 has superior electrical insulation properties, high tensile strength and superb optical clarity.  It has a service operating temperature range of -65°F to +400°F.

MasterSil 151 is tough and flexible.   It has an elongation at break of 160% and a Shore A hardness of 45.  It has superior resistance to vibration, impact and shock.  It also is resistant to thermal cycling.  MasterSil 151 has a dielectric strength of 460 volts/mil and a volume resistivity of 1x1015 ohm cm.

Master Bond MasterSil 151 has a 10 to 1 mix ratio by weight.  Its low viscosity assures complete fill-in around complicated contours in even very complicated configurations.  Shrinkage upon cure is very low.  Shelf life in original containers is 6 months at 75°F.  MasterSil 151 is available for use in half- pint, pint, quart, gallon and 5 gallon kit containers.

Released this year, Nordson EFD's PICO 500Hz valve dispenses at continuous speeds up to 500Hz (cycles per second), which makes it the fastest piezoelectric valve available. Gannon & Scott to Dedicate New Manufacturing Facility in Cranston

New facility doubles capacity, increasing local employment

Cranston, R.I. - Gannon & Scott, international recycler of precious metals headquartered in Cranston, will dedicate a new manufacturing facility, which doubles its processing capacity, at a ceremony on December 6th.

The $8MM investment doubles the thermal reduction, milling, screening, and blending capacity of the company and employs the most technologically advanced and proven pollution control system for the thermal reduction process.

The 93,000 square foot facility which sits on 6.19 acres in Cranston, took nearly two years to complete working with local and state agencies, such as the RI Economic Development Council and the RI Department of Environmental Management. The company also employed a variety of local and regional vendors.

"We're proud to have worked with various local and regional vendors and state agencies during this project," said Ken Dionne, Gannon & Scott CEO, "and we foresee at least a 20% increase in our local workforce as a result of our investment.”

In addition to the expansion, Gannon & Scott, working with Beaumont Solar Company, was awarded a coveted solar power Distributed Generation Standard Contract. Administered by the Office of Energy Resources and National Grid and approved by the RI Public Utilities Commission, this significant investment will provide clean, renewable energy directly to the local electric grid.

Bank of America provided financing for the expansion and solar projects, including the purchase of the real estate.

“Gannon and Scott came to us looking to grow their business, create jobs and produce clean, renewable energy here in Rhode Island,” said Bill Hatfield, Rhode Island president, Bank of America. “We are pleased that we were able to work closely with them to provide the support they needed to help them meet their goals and create economic opportunities for local residents.”

"This facility is the personification of our corporate slogan "Doing It Right" which encompasses our customers, our employees, our community, our industry and our environment," said Jack Gannon, Chairman of the Board. “It also underscores our commitment to Rhode Island which dates back to our roots here 94 years ago."   

The dedication ceremony will take place at the 45 Sharpe Drive location and will include a reception, tour and remarks from Governor Lincoln Chafee, Mayor Alan Fung, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Bill Hatfield, Rhode Island President, Bank of America and be attended by Gannon & Scott employees as well as project vendors and representatives of various state and local agencies.
