One Component LED Curable System Offers Exceptionally Fast Cure Speeds

Cures Completely Tack-Free Without Requiring UV Light

Master Bond LED401 is a breakthrough system based on LED technology. This adhesive, sealant, coating and encapsulant cures tack-free upon exposure to a 405 nm wavelength light source, without any oxygen inhibition. Optically clear, it is also safer and easier to handle than similar UV systems as LED lights emit substantially less heat than UV lamps. This makes LED401 a suitable choice for applications involving heat sensitive substrates.

As a one part system, LED401’s open time is indefinite. It is a higher viscosity system at 100,000-150,000 cps, but maintains its flowability and convenient handling. With cure times of 15 to 30 seconds or less in thinner sections, depending upon the distance of the light source from the material being cured, it can also be readily cured in sections up to 1/8 inch thick. It bonds well to similar and dissimilar substrates, including most plastics, metals and ceramics. Additionally, this compound has superior adhesion to glass, polycarbonates and acrylics.

LED401 offers excellent resistance to a variety of chemicals including water, many acids, bases and oils. It has superior electrical insulation properties with a volume resistivity exceeding 1014 ohm-cm. Serviceable over the wide temperature range of -60°F to +250°F, LED401 features very good dimensional stability.

Master Bond LED401 has a shelf life of six months at room temperature without exposure to light, in its original containers. It is available in syringes, ½ pints, pints, quarts, gallons and 5 gallon containers. Other versions of this product are available with different viscosities and in an opaque white color.

Low Viscosity, Room Temperature Curing Epoxy Complies with FDA and USP Class VI Requirements

Ideal for potting and encapsulation applications, Master Bond EP21LV features a low viscosity and outstanding electrical insulation properties. It is broadly used in the medical and food industries, as it conforms to USP Class VI and Title 21, U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, FDA Chapter 1, Section 175.105 requirements. 

Offering a forgiving 1 to 1 mix ratio by weight or volume, EP21LV cures at room temperature in 24 to 36 hours or faster at elevated temperatures. This system is unique in that the rigidity of its cure can be altered by adjusting its mix ratio. For example by adding more of Part A (for example, in a 2 to 1 ratio), users will get a more rigid cure with enhanced machinability. Switching to a 1 to 2 mix ratio yields a more forgiving cure with improved impact resistance.

Serviceable over the wide range of -65°F to +250°F, this epoxy features a long working life of 60 to 75 minutes for a 200 gram mass. EP21LV bonds well to a variety of substrates including metals, glass, wood, rubbers, ceramics and many plastics. It resists thermal cycling as well as water, oils, fuels, bases, acids and salts. EP21LV produces durable bonds with a tensile strength of 7,600 psi, a shear strength over 2,900 psi and an elongation of 4.8% at 75°F. This versatile two-component epoxy has a volume resistivity of 1015 ohm-cm and a coefficient of thermal expansion of 53 in/in x 10-6/ °C.

In addition to its standard amber-clear color, EP21LV is available in a wide variety of alternative colors. Parts A and B come in pint, quart, gallon and five gallon container kits.

Solar Power Advances Farming Practices and Promotes Sustainable Methods of Energy Generation, Food Production and Crop Protection

This installation demonstrates the active commitment DuPont has to sustainable energy, sustainable agriculture and collaboration with the farming community on innovative solutions to feed and power the world

Today, DuPont celebrated the installation of a 200 kilowatt solar array at Harborview Farms, one of the largest agriculture operations in Maryland. The 10,000-plus acre farm exemplifies cutting-edge management practices and key collaborations between DuPont Photovoltaic SolutionsDuPont Pioneer, and DuPont Crop Protection to provide sustainable solutions for food, energy and environmental protection.

“Renewable energy is a fast growing part of the global energy mix, and solar power in particular is more affordable today than ever before,” said David B. Miller, president, DuPont Electronics & Communications. “Solar power, together with sustainable farming practices – such as the use of specialized seed, advanced crop protection, nutrient and pest management, utilization of cover crops, and the implementation of sustainable planting and harvesting methods – provides great potential to boost crop yields and energy savings for farmers. Harborview Farms is operated by Trey and Cheryl Hill with Trey’s parents, Herman and Christy Hill. They produce corn, wheat and soybeans for the poultry industry of Delmarva and the baking industry of southeast Pennsylvania. In the winter, Harborview Farms features cover crops to improve soil quality and control erosion, including radishes and barley. The mission of Harborview Farms includes sustainable agriculture – and the solar panel installation is just the latest example of what the Hill family is doing to embrace and exemplify responsible farming practices that benefit the environment, the community and future generations. Best management practices and integrated pest management are utilized fully to ensure optimum productivity and protection of the environment while contributing to the restoration of Chesapeake Bay.

When Trey Hill learned about DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions and the proven reliability of its DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) films, he specified the material in the solar panels he installed at Harborview Farms. Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride film-based backsheets provide solar panels with superior protection against the elements even beyond their expected 25-year lifetime. Under normal, as well as extreme ultraviolet and damp heat exposure, Tedlar® film-based backsheets have been proven to resist delamination, yellowing and degradation that compromise other backsheet materials. The modules for Harborview Farms were manufactured by Motech Industries, Inc., and Smuckers Energy, LLC designed and installed the array.

Axus Technology Adds Bob Roberts as Director of Business Development

Axus Technology is pleased to announce the hiring of Bob Roberts as Director, Business Development.  Roberts has more than three decades of experience in the CMP, polishing, and wafer grinding fields, working with a number of new product introductions and process applications.  Roberts will focus on developing new business opportunities for Axus Technology's process foundry operations, as well as managing several of Axus' new product introductions. 

"Bob's extensive background with our key technologies, and his applications insights will help us better support our customers worldwide," said Barrie Van Devender, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  "Our products and applications efforts will be guided by both his long-term experience with traditional IC manufacturing, as well as in the growing MEMS, LED, and advanced packaging markets."       


Prior to joining Axus Technology, Roberts served as the Executive Director of Advanced Technologies and the Director of the Asia-Pacific Region for Strasbaugh, where he managed sales and customer relations efforts for CMP, TSV, BSI, and advanced LED applications. Roberts held various positions at KUKA Robotics, a German robot manufacturer and previous to that he was a regional Director of Sales for SpeedFam-IPEC. Mr. Roberts was also a co-founder of Solution Technology Incorporated, a supplier of specialized CMP polishing slurry supplier, which is currently a part of the Dow Chemical organization.
