Indium Corporation Earns International Automotive Quality Recognition at Solder Manufacturing Facilities

Indium Corporation has earned IATF 16949:2016 management system certificates for five of its solder manufacturing facilities in Clinton and Utica, NY, USA; Singapore; Milton Keynes, UK; and China. The company’s headquarters in Clinton, NY, USA has also achieved IATF 16949 certification.

Indium Corporation has demonstrated effective implementation of a management system that satisfies the tough global auto supply chain standard recognized by automotive industry leaders worldwide. Designed to improve customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements and needs with high-quality products, IATF 16949 provides a critical guiding framework for the industry and encourages an internal culture focused on ongoing improvement.

According to Ross Berntson, President and Chief Operating Officer, “These certifications reaffirm to all of our customers worldwide that Indium Corporation’s soldering materials are produced with the utmost quality to ensure the reliability of our customers’ finished goods.”

IATF 16949:2016 is an international Automotive Quality Management System Standard aimed at continuous improvement, emphasizing defect prevention, and reducing variation and waste in the automotive industry supply chain.

Indium Corporation Announces Ultrafine 0.006” (0.15mm) Flux-Cored Wire Capabilities

Indium Corporation announces that it is now offering ultrafine flux-cored wire down to 0.006” (0.15mm) in diameter for standard Pb-free alloys.

Indium Corporation’s ultrafine flux-cored wire was developed to meet the progressively demanding requirements for increased solder joint density and miniaturization in applications where solder paste reflow and other soldering approaches are not effective, such as robotic soldering, fine-pitch component attachment, and hand soldering. Indium Corporation flux-cored wire offers:

  • Evenly wound layers onto the spools to avoid tangles during use
  • Consistent diameters that meet the most stringent requirements
  • No flux voids within the wire for consistent, worry-free soldering

Indium Corporation uses only “conflict-free” and grade A (per ASTM B32) metals, as well as other high-purity metals for its flux-cored wire. All materials have been tested and certified to meet IPC J-STD-004B and other relevant industry specifications, including the legacy military specification QQ-S-571F.

Featured flux vehicles for the 0.006” wire is Core 230-RC (REL1) and CW-808 (REL0). Both of these fluxes were developed for robotic soldering applications and contain Indium Corporation’s low-spatter technology.

:: Epoxy Based, Dual Curing Adhesive from Master Bond Offering Thixotropic Dispensing Profile

Master Bond UV22DC80-10F is a single component, nanosilica filled compound featuring a UV and heat curing mechanism. This thixotropic, moderately low viscosity compound has a viscosity of 8,000-12,000 cps at 75°F (~ 23°C). It provides outstanding dimensional stability and superior physical strength properties. Additionally, UV22DC80-10F is optically clear and offers the ability to be cured in shadowed out areas. “It is designed to cure in 10-30 seconds at 365nm with 10-40 mW/cm2 of UV output, followed by a post cure at 180°F (~ 80°C) for 30-60 minutes. This system has been specially designed for applications involving heat sensitive components”, says Rohit Ramnath, Senior Product Engineer. “The product is serviceable from -60°F to 350°F (-51°C to 177°C) and it offers a lower coefficient of thermal expansion 30-35 x 10-6 inch/inch/°C compared to other UV curing systems.”

Master Bond UV22DC80-10F is 100% solids and is not oxygen inhibited. It is capable of curing up to thicknesses of around 0.050 inches. The product can be used for bonding, sealing, coating and glob-top type applications. It has a refractive index of 1.52 at 589 nm. It is available for purchase in 10 cc and 30 cc syringes, ounce jars, ½ pint, 1 pint, and quart containers. The shelf life at 40-50°F is 6 months in the original unopened containers.
